In the popup Preferences window, click Project: Project-Name > Project Interpreter menu item at the left panel.- To follow along with the exercises in this course, you'll need the latest version of Python three and a good code editor. Then click the PyCharm > Preferences menu item ( macOS) or Window > Preferences menu item ( Windows OS ). Open PyCharm IDE, I use PyCharm community edition with Anaconda plugin. How To Install Python Interpreter In PyCharm. You can download PyCharm from the jetbrains.com website. I recommend that you download and install the latest version for your platform. I suggest you use PyCharm instead of Komodo, you can download Python from the python.org website right here. Unfortunately, Komodo is no longer supported and has a major problems, which are unlikely to be fixed for those reasons. Keep in mind, your screen will look different than my screen in the lesson videos that's because I recorded these lessons earlier using Komodo Edit a different editor. You'll notice the first time you start PyCharm, it has these three buttons, new project, open, and get from VCS. And I'm going to show you this, both on my Mac and on Windows. Once you've installed the latest versions of Python and PyCharm, you can open the exercise files directly in PyCharm.
Let's go ahead and do that on Windows before we go any further here, here we are in Windows and I have the same three buttons. So now the exercise files are open as a new project in PyCharm. This will open the exercise files as a project in PyCharm, even though we didn't select new project. And this will open our exercise files, selecting my desktop and the exercise files. We're going to select open, not the other two, but open. You cannot run these files without the Python Interpreter. You'll notice down here in the lower right-hand corner, it says, no interpreter. Now you notice I'm going to stay here on Windows for a moment and we'll do this on the Mac in a moment. It's easy to navigate to my exercise files because they're on my desktop and this opens them in my PyCharm Editor. And if it says the latest version you just downloaded. Hopefully it's the version that you just downloaded. Yours may say Python 3.9 or whatever version. Now, yours may not say no interpreter. It should select the latest version that you just downloaded. Just select system interpreter. Any of these environments is just going to create unnecessary complexity, which we don't need for this purpose. We do not want a virtual environment. Over here on the left, first thing we need to do is select system interpreter. I'm going to select the gear and add an interpreter. You may have an interpreter there, and it may be the correct one. Again, it says no interpreter on your machine. Now that that's done, let's go over to the Mac and do the same thing. You want to wait for that to be done. And you notice that it's doing its install thing down here. This is the only version that's on this machine and I'm going to press okay and okay. Things are going to work differently, and it's not going to be good for you. Again, very important, select one of these other ones. I'm going to select the gear and say, add and select system interpreter. I'm going to come up here to the PyCharm Menu and go to preferences and under project and Python Interpreter, notice there's nothing here in my dropdown box. And I say, control shift R. And if I double click on that, it'll load it up in my editor here. Great, ow I can select my hello version dot PY. And I'm going to say, okay, again, and it does this little thing down there, and now we have our Python Interpreter. I'm going to say, okay, and wait for all my packages to load up. And so I'm going to select that one. This is Python version, and it gives a version number 3.9.7, which is the version that I just downloaded and installed. It says, hello, version dot PY. And it actually runs my script in there. Now let's go over windows and do the same thing. But for now we can see that it's running the script and it's running it correctly. And we'll get into those details later on in the course. Now here's where it gets a little funky on Windows because this is Windows and Windows loves funky. And it says, this is Python version 3.9.7, which is correct. Like if I ran the command CMD on windows, and here it's run the script inside this terminal with the command shell running. This time it brings up a command window very much. And you notice that it runs a script. And I'm going to say shift control F10. Then you're going to need to switch to this CMD command interpreter for some reason, at least at this time, as I'm recording it, PowerShell doesn't work very well with PyCharm and that's okay. Yours may be different if yours has PowerShell here and it's not working, it gives the script name, but it does not show the result. That's the command interpreter CMD. ![]() And you notice it's not actually running my script so that doesn't work. I got that little blink, which was a PowerShell window. Notice it's in PowerShell. ![]() For example, if I come over here to chapter two and I bring up say fibonacci.py, I'm going to double click on that. You may notice that some of the files in this course bring up warnings. But first, a few important notes. So this is what that means. And you'll see that all of these warning say pep eight at the beginning of them. It says five weak warnings, or it might say something else about the warnings come over here to the problems tab. Sometimes you have to wait for them a little bit. ![]() I always encourage my students to use and develop a style and to stick with it consistently. PyCharm defaults to checking for pep eight style. So I've always used my style and this was never an issue until I opened my code in PyCharm. My coding style is consistent across languages across projects. And my code is very consistent. Pycharm Free To UseSo if I come over here and shift control R on the Mac or shift control F10 on Windows, you see the code works just fine. So feel free to use the pep eight standards if you like, you may keep the warnings on, or you may turn them off as you prefer either way, the code is going to run the same. And code is generally read far more often than it's written. Office for mac 2011 crashes el capitanAnd your code will still work just as if it wasn't checking for those warnings and this little guy go away at some point. I'm going to go ahead and close both of these. And here they are pep eight, pep eight, just uncheck those and say, okay, and all of those warnings go away. And if you type P E P in the search box, it'll just find them. I'm going to come up here to the preferences and you'll find it under editor and inspections, or you can just come up here. So if you want to turn these warnings off and you can either turn them off or not, it's up to you. It is developed by the Czech. And if I'm over here on Windows and I want to close, I make sure it's selected and just press control shift F four.PyCharm is an integrated development environment (IDE) used in computer programming, specifically for the Python language. If I want to close that terminal with a key press, instead of hunting for that little X, I just press command w on the Mac.
